This project was designed for a home owner in need of transforming her existing home into one that could house her growing and evolving family. Each floor of the upper west side townhouse was completely tranformed to breathe new life into the urban home. Collaboration was key to this project. Much of the inspiration came from the home owners travel experience and desire to incorporate a vibrant, colorful aesthetic for her family.

Incorporating a colorful material palette and new custom built-in funishings, we were able to create an oasis for the owner to live, work and raise her family. The rainbow staircase invites guests into the above multicolored spaces, reflecting the client’s cheerful aesthetic and warm home. It also draws down natural light to meet the light entering from the front door, extending the entryway inward.
Sliding doors create flexible partitions between bedrooms, while still allowing the individuality of each room to flourish through bold colors and accent patterns. Reconfiguration of the living spaces achieved the goal of creating a private living area on the fourth floor and redesigning the third floor to suit the family’s growing needs. This playful design successfully transformed the townhouse into a beloved home.
