The owners of the Morris Guest House returned to renovate their existing lake house on the same site as their guest house. This project required a complete gut renovation of the interior and a reworking of the lake facing exterior balconies along with the creation of a new screen porch. The rooms were reorganized with views redirected toward the lake. [photography by Durston Saylor]
The center of the interior space was carved out in order to create a large double-height kitchen space, revealing a central brick chimney hearth that faces onto both the kitchen and the dining room. New lounge areas were created focusing attention to the outdoor spaces and down toward the lake.
The new staircase was built under a brick arch leading through the brick chimney volume up to the second level. A new glass walkway connects the bedrooms from one side of the house to the other, allowing a connection to the lower level beyond. Custom furnishings and built-ins were designed to coordinate with the owner's aesthetics and personality.
